A Bazaar Full of Bargains

For six hours on Saturday, Sept. 26, Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ (UCC) will transform into a bargain hunter's dream.

The church, located at 11 E. Elizabeth St., Maytown, will host its annual bazaar and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Prices for most items are by donation," said Linda Good, church secretary. "There are a few special items that will be priced."

People will also have the opportunity to win a laundry basket filled with new household items. The winner will be drawn at 2 p.m., and people do not need to be present to win.

Free coffee and doughnuts will be available, and baked goods will also be for sale.

Good said the sale always features a large inventory.

"We have something for everyone," she remarked. "All items are in good condition. Some of the items are new and still in their boxes."

The variety of items will include furniture, toys, purses, household goods, curtains, bedding, shoes, collectibles, tools, jewelry, books and more.

Shoppers may find framed pictures, holiday items, office supplies, gadgets and glassware, Good said.

For bargain hunters, the bazaar offers plenty of opportunities to browse at a leisurely pace and discover something unexpected. With such a wide range of merchandise, shoppers can look for practical household necessities, items for children, seasonal decorations or unique treasures. The donation-based pricing on most merchandise also makes it possible to find useful items while supporting the church's outreach efforts.

Proceeds from the event are used for local outreach and for the many missions of the church.

The event also provides an opportunity for neighbors and community members to gather at the church and enjoy a morning of shopping. Visitors browse the baked goods and take their time looking through the many tables and displays while enjoying fellowship with members of the church and the wider community.

The church has been holding the bazaar and yard sale for many years, and it's an example of how the congregation works to impact the community outside its walls.

"We are small in numbers, but mighty in faith and hospitality," Good said.

Maytown UCC holds worship services at 10 a.m. on Sundays, both in person and on Zoom. Intergenerational Sunday school is held at 9 a.m.

"We have a weekly email called Wednesday's Words for information and prayer requests," Good shared. "We also have a Zoom vespers service on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m."

Donations are still being accepted for bazaar and yard sale items, but organizers have requested no clothing donations. For more information, call 717-468-6601.
