Youths earn Eagle Scout Award

Boy Scout Troop 267 has announced that three of its members have earned the Eagle Scout Award. The honorees are Andrew Eckman, Dean Schlosser, and Jack Camens.

Andrew joined Scouting in 2015 as a Wolf Scout in Pack 125. He soon came to love Scouting and continued until he reached his Arrow of Light. Andrew then joined Scouts BSA Troop 267. Andrew has held the positions of quartermaster, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has also attained the Brotherhood level in the Order of the Arrow. Andrew has also been awarded achievements such as the 50-Miler patch, Philmont Arrowhead, and God and Country pin.

Andrew's Eagle project involved restoring a nature trail, a water overlook, and multiple benches at Elizabeth R. Martin Elementary School. The project created an outdoor learning environment for students at the school.

Dean began his Scouting career with Landisville Pack 37, where he earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor in Cub Scouts. He continued his link with the pack by acting as a den chief for several years, earning the Den Chief Service Award. He initially crossed over to Troop 64 in Rohrerstown and then transferred to Troop 267, where he became a patrol leader and was elected senior patrol leader for the 2024-25 Scouting season.

For his Eagle Scout project, he coordinated the removal of several invasive species along a quarter-mile stretch at the Clark Nature Preserve for the Lancaster Conservancy. The project was intended to ensure that the spread of various non-native species will not reach the nearby creek as well as to limit these species' spread to other areas of the county.

Jack began his Scouting journey as a Tiger Cub Scout in Pack 37 in 2013. He earned the Arrow of Light Award before crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 267 in early 2018. Jack held the positions of chaplain's aide, patrol leader, troop guide, and bugler in Troop 267. He attended the World Scouting Jamboree in 2019 with several members of the troop at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. Jack was a member of Philmont Crew 628-N-2 in the summer of 2021, when he backpacked for 10 days over more than 50 miles in the rugged back country of Scouting America's Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. During the trip, he learned essential outdoor skills.

For his Eagle project, Jack built three benches for Highland Presbyterian Church, where he is a member. The benches will be placed outside in various areas of the church's property, including one at the Little Free Library in front of the church.

In addition to Scouting, Jack is involved in musical activities at Hempfield High School, including playing the trumpet in the Hempfield Marching Knights, the trumpet and French horn in the symphonic band, and the cymbals in the indoor percussion ensemble. In 2024, he was selected as first-chair trumpet in the County Band. Jack is a member of the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.
