York College To Present "The Moors"

York College's Theatre Program will present "The Moors," a dark comedy inspired by the writings of the Brontë sisters, from Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 28 to 30, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center on the college campus, 441 Country Club Road, York. Performances will be at 7 p.m. daily, and there will be a 3 p.m. matinee on Oct. 30.

Written by author Jen Silverman, "The Moors" focuses on the lives of two sisters, which are disrupted when a young governess, played by Sara Purdon, arrives and learns there is no child for her to actually govern. The audience will hear the thoughts of the family dog, portrayed by Acell Spencer, as he finds a companion in an injured moor-hen, played by Charity Stump. Characters break out in song to express their emotions.

Director Carrie Klewin Lawrence began the rehearsal process over Zoom before arriving on campus. She has extensive virtual theater experience. In addition, York College actors have received coaching in singing, fight choreography, and more in order to prepare for the show.

Tickets are free, but seating is limited. To reserve tickets, call the box office at 717-600-3868.
