YCAS Sets Events At Observatory

The York County Astronomical Society (YCAS) will offer events at its observatory at John C. Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road, York. The events are open to the public.

From 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, a public Starwatch will take place. The evening will begin with a screened astronomical presentation on the James Webb Space Telescope first images. Guests will then be guided on a tour of the sky through one of the club's telescopes and be shown a host of celestial objects.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, "Solar and Radio Astronomy" will be presented by Kerry Smith from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including a discussion of YCAS' radio astronomy endeavors. Attendees will also be able to view the sun through the society's solar telescope, as well as view it remotely on a screen that will be hooked up to a telescope.

Also on Aug. 20, a telescope clinic will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. The program will feature "How to Buy an Astronomical Telescope" as well as technical assistance from members on how to use a telescope. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own telescopes for assistance.

If it is clear, all activities will occur as scheduled. If it is completely cloudy or raining, the indoor activity of a screened astronomical presentation will occur as scheduled. In the event of extreme weather, call 717-759-9227 for notice of cancellation or visit the York County Astronomical Society's page on Facebook.
