Yard sale and barbecue slated in East Petersburg

As part of its series of community events, the East Petersburg Events Committee will host a yard sale and chicken barbecue on Saturday, June 3, at East Petersburg Community Park, 6051 Pine St., East Petersburg. The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, and the chicken barbecue will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Vendors will include local businesses and members of the community, who will sell items such as household goods, plants and flowers and homemade crafts. Vendors may sign up for a 10-by-10-foot space for a set fee, and multiple adjacent spaces may be rented for those who wish to have a larger spot. To register for a vendor space, download the sign-up form at http://www.eastpetersburgday.com and drop it off at the East Petersburg Borough office, located at 6040 Main St. in East Petersburg. Registration will also be available on the day of the event; the Events Committee requests those registering on the day of the event to arrive between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

As the yard sale concludes, the chicken barbecue will begin. The barbecue is sponsored by S. Clyde Weaver Inc., which will have 250 chicken dinners available to purchase. Each meal will come with a drink, a dinner roll, a side and a dessert, along with a half-chicken. S. Clyde Weaver Inc. will also provide a refrigerated truck to keep the food fresh, and Simply Greek will assist with preparing the meals. Although the yard sale has been held for several years, the chicken barbecue portion of the event was added last year. The proceeds from both the yard sale and the chicken barbecue will help the East Petersburg Events Committee to fund other community events that it organizes throughout the year. "We're hoping to generate the funds to keep new ventures going this summer," said Kristin Troop, chairperson of the Events Committee. "Adding new events is expensive, so the yard sale and barbecue will help to alleviate some of the costs."

The Events Committee has introduced several live entertainment events this year, including a concert in August that will feature the Uptown Band. The concert will also incorporate a beer garden and local food trucks, as part of a larger event called Summer Fest.. "We have this beautiful amphitheater that is such a great asset to the community," Troop said. "Being able to use that and bring big bands in has always been one of our goals. We want to give the community another free family event that is going to be super fun."
