Wagner, Varner Named Seniors Of The Month

Blake Wagner and Emmalynn Varner have been selected as May's Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School. The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, and the Rotary Club of Manheim sponsors the Boys of the Month. Seniors of the Month are chosen by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character, and involvement within the school and community.

Blake, 18, is the son of Nevin and Sharon Wagner of Manheim. Blake has played on the volleyball team all four years of high school. He is a part of Spanish Club, Science Club, Interact, and Mu Alpha Theta. He has received first honors in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. He volunteers with the Interact Club, whether it be helping at Pleasant View or helping to serve meals to people in the community. He participates in the youth group at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church, through which he has been involved in the Manheim Project and annual mission trips. Blake plans to attend a four-year college to study cybersecurity.

Emmalynn, 17, is the daughter of Kevin and Shari Varner of Lititz. Emmalynn is a member of the tennis team and the sideline percussion in the Manheim Central marching band. Emmalynn is a part of Interact Club, Student Council, Quiz Bowl, Science Club, and Science Olympiad. She has participated in German Club and the ping-pong club. She is vice president of National Honor Society and a part of Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and English Honor Society. She also attends Wednesday Morning Worship and is the co-leader this year. Emmalynn attends Mount Joy Mennonite Church and as a part of its youth group has been on two mission trips, one to Jamaica and one to Lancaster city. Her plans after high school include attending college and majoring in either elementary education or middle-level education with an emphasis on math and social studies.
