Vox Philia Slates Concert

Vox Philia will present a concert titled "Earth and All Stars" at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen St., Lancaster. The event will include the regional premieres of two contemporary extended choral works: Alex Berko's "Sacred Place" and Cecilia McDowall's "Music of the Stars."

"Sacred Place" is conceived in the format of a liturgical service, inviting audiences to reflect on their shared environment. The work interweaves texts from renowned naturalists with traditional Jewish prayer, creating a tribute to the Earth.

"Music of the Stars" explores the uplifting power of music in challenging times. It features diverse texts from a Ukrainian folk song, the works of Kenyan poet Brian Odongo, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and American writer James Weldon Johnson.

The concert will also include selections from Alfred Fedak, Tom Trenney, Ēriks Ešenvalds, and Frank James Staneck.
