Volleyball Team Earns Academic Award

For the fifth year in a row, the Penn Manor girls' varsity volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

The team was also named to the Team Academic Award Honor Roll for earning a cumulative grade point average that was among the top 20% of all girls' high school teams in America in the 2020-21 school year.

"This is a tremendous honor for our girls and a testament to the hard work and dedication that they put into volleyball and their school work," said athletic director Steve Kramer. "The perseverance they showed last year was amazing. They started the season practicing outside due to construction at the high school and had to adapt, like all the schools in the area, to a different type of learning with us using the hybrid format to start the school year," he continued. "They faced every obstacle head-on, had a great season and shined in the classroom. We are very proud of the team and the coaches for earning this award again."

Nine of the 13 Penn Manor players earned GPAs of 4.0 or higher. These team members are Natalie Krahulik, Jordan Schucker, Nicole Lapp, Sophia Millhouse, Cassidy McCollum, Brienna Reinike, Emma Saylor, Alyssa Heagy and Kylie Mattern.

Krahulik, a junior, had the highest GPA at 5.18, and Schucker, the team captain, earned a GPA of 5.0 and was named salutatorian of the 2021 Penn Manor graduating class.

Other varsity members included Lexington Sangrey, Payton Sanchez, Madison Trout and Lillian Barton.
