Violinist To Perform Concert

Gretna Music will present a performance by violinist Mio Imai at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna, on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 7:15.

Imai has been a solo performer since she was 9 years old. Now 14, she has played with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in the U.S., as well as the FVG Orchestra and Accademia d'Archi Arrigoni Orchestra in Italy. Imai has won the first prize in the 2024 Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition (Belgium), 2024 Stulberg International String Competition (U.S.), 2024 Music Teachers National Association Competition (U.S.), and the 2023 Piccolo Violino Magico International Competition (Italy). Imai has also competed and placed in the Leonid Kogan International Competition, the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition, and the Chicago International Violin Competition.

Imai will perform pieces by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Lili Boulanger, and Mendelssohn. She will play a Vincenzo Sannino violin and Francois Nicolas Voirin bow on loan from the Takeuchi Collection through the Nippon Violin Society program.

GRAMMY-nominated pianist Dr. Mark Livshits will accompany Imai. Livshits is a Steinway Artist and appears frequently in concert with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as with the orchestra as a substitute in the keyboard section.
