Vintage Vehicles Down On Main Street

GSFR Car Cruise Planned

In 2021, the annual Garden Spot Fire Rescue (GSFR) car cruise lined up cars along Main Street, along with filling the parking lot of the GSFR station at 339 E. Main St., New Holland. According to organizer Ray Harnish, about 100 vintage and modern vehicles, including motorcycles, took part in the event, which was dampened by the threat of rain.

The 2022 event, which is the 19th annual, will close Main Street from Kinzer Avenue to Brimmer Avenue, beginning at noon on Sunday, June 12. The cruise is open to cars, motorcycles, tractors, and more. There is no preregistration to participate, as registration will only be available on the day of the cruise. Cars will be parked in the area starting at noon, and the event will last until 4 p.m.

Perks for those who register vehicles will include T-shirts to the owners of the first 50 vehicles and dash plaques to the first 100 owners. Participants will also have opportunities to win door prizes donated by local businesses, including a grand prize of $500 off the purchase of a new car or truck from a local dealership or $250 cash.

During the car show, local firefighters will select vehicles to receive awards in several categories, including firefighters' choice, chief's choice, best motor, and best paint. Big wheel drag races for people of all ages will be held.

Musical entertainment at the cruise will be provided by The Nomads. Food trucks located on-site will include Hen House Grilling, which will offer grilled meats, the GSFR trailer; and Lickity Split offering ice cream treats for purchase.

Funds raised by the event will benefit GSFR, an all-volunteer firefighting and rescue force serving the greater New Holland area. GSFR is ready to welcome more volunteers. Those who are interested in volunteering may come to the cruise and talk to a GSFR member.
