Union Fire Company Plans Banquet

Union Fire Company No. 1 will hold its 265th annual banquet on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 6 Pine St., Mount Joy.

The featured speaker will be Jack Brubaker, a local journalist and researcher who recently announced his retirement. Following dinner and dessert, Brubaker will present on the history of the Conestoga Indians.

Reservations are required, and seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations will be accepted until Tuesday, July 29. For details about reservations and payment, email ufcno.1firesafetyday@gmail.com.

Union Fire Company No. 1 was founded in 1760 but ceased active firefighting in 1882, when the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire was established. Since then, it has continued as a local civic association, and it is always seeking new members. Those with an interest in public safety and local history are invited to join.
