Troop 48 explores nation's capital

Scouts from Troop 48 recently embarked on a journey to the nation's capital, where they got an up-close look at significant landmarks and institutions.

The Scouts toured the White House as well as the U.S. Capitol, where they gained insights into the legislative process. A visit to the Library of Congress allowed them to see one of the largest and most historic collections of information in the world. At the National Museum of American History, they explored exhibits showcasing America's cultural and historical heritage.

The group also stopped at the Boy Scout Commemorative Tribute, a memorial honoring Scouting's legacy and impact on young leaders across generations. Stops also included the Washington Monument; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial; and the Lincoln Memorial. At Arlington National Cemetery, the Scouts observed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The trip concluded with a visit to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, part of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, where Scouts explored legendary aircraft and spacecraft, including the Enola Gay and Space Shuttle Discovery.

Troop 48's journey to Washington, D.C., was more than just a sightseeing trip. The experience was intended to deepen the Scouts' understanding of American history and reinforce the values of duty, service, and leadership.
