Tours to examine president's family life

LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will present a special tour of Wheatland, the home of the United States' 15th president, James Buchanan, on Saturday, April 1. The tour, "A Stern but Devoted Uncle," will focus on Buchanan's relationship with his nieces and nephews and his relationship with his parents.

During the tour, visitors will discover why Buchanan was known as a stern but devoted uncle, one who doted on his nieces and nephews. Also, visitors will learn how Buchanan's relationship with his parents shaped him and how his relationship with his family members influenced their lives.

Tours will be available on the hour, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until the last tour at 3 p.m. These tours are not regular general admission tours and will focus more on a particular topic than a general history of Buchanan and the home.

Tickets are available for purchase at http://www.lancasterhistory.org or by calling 717-392-4633. When booking online, visitors should first select the date of April 1, followed by the tour time of their choice. Reservations are highly recommended as tours may sell out, and walk-in tickets may not be available. Members will receive complimentary admission but should reserve their tickets in advance to guarantee the tour time of their choice.
