"Titanic" slated at Fulton Theatre

The Fulton Theatre will present "Titanic" on select dates through Sunday, May 21. The production was originally slated for March of 2020 but was canceled due to the pandemic.

On April 11, 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage, destined for America. A total of 2,200 passengers and crew members were on board. In the early morning hours of April 15, the RMS Titanic was lost at sea after hitting an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean. Fifteen hundred people lost their lives.

The musical tells the ship's tragic story but highlights what the ship represented: the dreams of the passengers and crew members. It also shares what happened to these people's dreams and social standings when all seemed lost. As the show unfolds, audiences meet a variety of first-, second-, and third-class passengers alongside members of the crew. The musical, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Peter Stone, premiered on Broadway in April of 1997. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The same year the musical premiered, a film of the same name was released. The film and musical have no relation beyond the source material.
