Hershey Rotary Club member Paul Thompson has been named the winner of the 2022 Packy Award, given in memory of Hershey Rotarian Purnell "Packy" Payne. This award is presented to a Rotary Club member who displays "Service Above Self" in his or her contributions and dedication to the Hershey Rotary Club and Rotary International through volunteer public service, community outreach or philanthropic activities.

Thompson has been a member of the Hershey Rotary Club for 15 years. He and his wife, fellow club member Maria Thompson, have visited more than two dozen Rotary Clubs around the world and attended four Rotary International conferences. Paul served as club president in 2019 to 2020 and will be Rotary District 7390 governor in 2024 to 2025. He and his family have hosted numerous Rotary Exchange students.

Thompson will allocate the $1,000 Packy Award grant to four organizations: the Hershey Symphony Orchestra, Hershey Area Playhouse, Hershey Community Chorus, and Hershey History Center.
