Theorem Painting Workshop Planned

The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates will hold its second Theorem Painting Workshop featuring Peggy Allen from Heritage Art and Craft Studio on Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Road, Birdsboro.

Theorem painting is a distinctive and rarely taught early American art form created exclusively through stenciling. Allen will guide participants in a step-by-step process of creating their own 8-by-10-inch theorem paintings of fruit compote in a glass bowl. Using layered stencils, brushes, and oil paints on fabric suitable for framing, each participant will produce a realistic portrait that appears hand-painted but is achieved through a step-by-step application of layered stenciling. No experience is required, and practice will be provided before doing the actual theorem.

In addition to the hands-on portion of the workshop, Allen will discuss theorem painting's history, composition, and creative process. On display will be a private collection of theorem paintings from local and regional artists.

Allen, a native of Berks County and co-owner of Heritage Art and Craft Studio, a mobile art studio, has dedicated over 30 years to teaching art and crafts. While she offers a wide range of classes, her true passion lies in traditional American crafts. Allen stays informed of current historical trends as a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD).

To register for the workshop by Sunday, May 10, email thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com to receive a registration form. There is a fee, with a discount for members of the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates. All supplies will be included, and proceeds will support the homestead.
