Students Chosen To Present Music

Lower Dauphin High School musicians Thomas Sutor and Spencer Sweigart participated in the first Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 7 Select Modern Band Festival on April 1 and 2 at Spring Grove High School. Students from across the eight-county District 7 auditioned to join the band. The ensemble's setlist included songs from Santana, Paramore, and the Allman Brothers, as well as two original songs written by the students themselves during the festival. They were directed by Bryan Powell, assistant professor of music education and music technology at Montclair State University.

Additionally, Lower Dauphin junior Aden Weigle was accepted into this year's PMEA All-State Chorus. He was scheduled to perform in the PMEA festival on April 8 under the direction of Amelia Garbisch, director of music education and assistant professor of choral music at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Aden is the son of Melissa and Kenneth Weigle. He has been a member of the Chamber Singers for three years as a bass 2 and is the section leader for the basses this year. He is also active in the high school's theater program, having participated in "The Sound of Music" and "Mamma Mia!" as an ensemble member; as the understudy for Callahan in "Legally Blonde"; as Jerry in "Silver Belles"; as Wickersham 3 in "Seussical"; as Juror 2 in "12 Angry Jurors"; and as Harry the Horse in "Guys & Dolls." Aden has been active with the Lower Dauphin orchestra program since fourth grade and plays the double bass.

Also on April 8, Lower Dauphin's Chamber Singers performed at the PMEA State Conference. It was the fourth time in the past decade that a Lower Dauphin choir group was invited to perform at a state or national conference. The group presented works by Passereau, Debussy, Hagenberg, Whitacre, and Garrett.

The Chamber Singers is a select, auditioned group of vocalists under the direction of Elizabeth Colpo. It was recognized as a 2021 National Finalist for The American Prize in Choral Music in the high school division. Members of the Chamber Singers include seniors Christianna Harchuska, Emma Waughen, Cadence Kanode, Katie Estes, Samantha Farace, Deneysha Roman, Kristen Ajala, Joshua Given, Jack Wolfe, Conor Grubb, Donovan McDonald, Dylan Hassinger, and Andrew King; juniors Lily Ditty, Audrey Meyers, Abbie Carter, TJ Fausnight, and Aden; sophomores Marina Weidman, Kaitlyn Hoffman, Abigail Foran, Amber Abela, Nathan Wolfe, Mason Barrick, and Silas Howard; and freshman Hunter Meyers.
