Student musicians plan pops concert

The Elizabethtown Area High School orchestra will present a pops concert on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the auditorium at the high school, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown, and admission is free and open to the public.

This year's theme is "Dance Dance Revolution: World Tour," a celebration of dance music from various times and cultures. The theme was chosen by the students, reflecting their enthusiasm for the 1998 Japanese arcade and video game "Dance Dance Revolution." The program will showcase the talents of the 91-member high school orchestra and the 25-member middle school Allegro Ensemble.

The catalyst for this year's concert planning is an original composition by director Rich Winey, titled "Scottish Hymn and Dance." Lancaster bagpiper Keith Espenshade will perform alongside the combined student ensemble.

Selections will also include Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 5," "City of Stars" from the movie musical "La La Land," the Latin dance-pop standard "Let's Get Loud," and "Kingdom Dance" from the Disney movie "Tangled." To add to the festive atmosphere, sections of the orchestra will be dressed in costumes that align with the concert's theme.

After the concert, attendees may enjoy refreshments.
