Student-athletes announce college decisions

Twelve Lower Dauphin High School seniors announced their college decisions at a signing ceremony on May 9 in the school gymnasium. They were surrounded by family members, coaches, staff members, teammates and friends as they signed letters stating their intention to continue their academic and playing careers at the next level. The honorees are as follows.

Ethan Duff, the son of Rebecca and Patrick Duff, is a four-year member of the baseball team and plays American Legion baseball in the community. He plans to study marketing at Frederick Community College.

Trey Harper, the son of Mike Harper, is a four-year member of the varsity baseball team and plays American Legion baseball in the community. He will attend Messiah University.

Casey Westerberg, the son of Mike and Leann Westerberg, is a four-year member of the baseball team and plays American Legion baseball in the community. He will attend Frederick Community College to major in criminal justice.

Taylor Atkinson, the daughter of Jamie and Brian Atkinson, is a four-year member of both the cross-country and track and field teams. She holds school records in the 1,600-meter run and the 4x800-meter relay. She will attend West Chester University to study dietetics and compete in both cross-country and track.

Makayla Rivera, the daughter of Carlos and Meghan Rivera, is a three-year varsity member of the swim team and a member of the Hummelstown swim team in the community. She will attend Immaculata University to study nursing.

Marina Weidman, the daughter of Pamela and Lonnie Weidman, is a four-year member of the girls' swim team and served as its captain this season. She will attend Lebanon Valley College to double major in history and social justice and civil engagement.

Tyler Persing, the son of Angie and Bryan Persing, is a four-year member of the track and field team, holding school records in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. He plans to attend Saint Francis University to study exercise physiology.

Drake Risser, the son of Marie and Timothy Risser, is a four-year member of the track and field team, holding the school record in the pole vault. He is also the 2024 state indoor champion in pole vault and a 2024 Nike Indoor Nationals All-American. He will attend Clemson University to study computer science.

Selin Yalcinanahtar, the daughter of Lee and Fatima Yalcinanahtar, is a four-year member of the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She will attend Juniata College to major in biology/pre-veterinary medicine.

Arun Gopinath, the son of Shine and Michele Gopinath, is a four-year member of the boys' volleyball team, with which he won three state titles. He also earned Mid-Penn Conference, District, and All-State first team All-Star honors. He will attend Elizabethtown College to study biology/pre-medicine.

Connor Roth, the son of Tami and Lou Roth, is a four-year member of the boys' volleyball team. He will attend Stevenson University to major in secondary education.

Cael Rossi, the son of Bob and Stacey Rossi, is a four-year member of the wrestling team and was a two-time sectional champion. He placed third at regionals this season en route to his seventh-place finish at the PIAA Championships. He will attend Millersville University to major in elementary education.
