Strasburg Groups Will Join Forces for Bingo

Strasburg Community Park volunteers and the Strasburg Fire Company are once again teaming up for a fundraiser.

Bingo, Baskets and Beef BBQ night will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Strasburg Fire Hall, 203 W. Franklin St. This will be the fourth time the two organizations will join forces to generate funds for both nonprofit groups. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

"Both the park and fire company rely on donations from the community to operate," said Barb Rathbone-Frank, Strasburg Community Park board member and bingo chairperson.

Fire company member Mike Lockard stated that the fire company will be making and serving beef barbecue sandwiches and other dinner items with prices a la carte. "We will have about seven fire company members in the kitchen, and we are ready to serve almost 300 hungry players and volunteers. Our guests love our beef barbecue sandwiches. It's the favorite item on our menu."

Proceeds from the food sales will help support the purchase of a new tanker truck. "Our current tanker is 25 years old and needs to be replaced," Lockard said.

The Strasburg Community Parks Foundation will coordinate and benefit from ticket sales for bingo games and prize baskets. "These funds will help pay for maintenance and upkeep of the 12-acre nature park. We are currently looking for funding to cover the cost for staining the park's outdoor stage," said Rathbone-Frank.

Lockard and Rathbone-Frank noted that the previous events have been beneficial to both Strasburg-based charitable organizations. "Our past bingo nights have met with great success and become very popular. To meet with the increased demand to participate, we've expanded the seating capacity and prepared more food for our guests," said Lockard.

"It's always exciting to watch the anticipation build as the games are played and (prize-winning) tickets are drawn and see the lucky winners going home with great prizes," said Rathbone-Frank.

Everyone must purchase a pack for 10 standard games of bingo for admission. Players may purchase additional sheet packs but must purchase at least one sheet pack for entry/admission. Cash bingo prizes will be offered for standard games. Three special bingo games will also be played for additional costs. Tickets for chances to win prizes and food sales will also begin at 4:30 p.m.

No advance tickets or reservations will be taken. All tickets will be sold on site at the door on Oct. 4. Games will start at 6 p.m. All children being admitted must be able to sit quietly and play bingo. Every child that is brought to bingo must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and the child must have purchased standard bingo cards for admission.
