Spring Thing will support Donegal Music Association

Thanks to the Donegal Music Association (DMA), students in Donegal School District have the support they need to foster their musical pursuits. Now you can help support the organization by attending Spring Thing.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 11, on the front lawn and in the parking lot of Donegal Junior High School, 915 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.

"We will have flowers for sale, a bake sale and a car wash," said Ashley Zell, president of the Donegal Music Association. "Come out and purchase some beautiful flowers for your mother for Mother's Day. And while you are shopping, you can get your car washed by some of our amazing music students and shop our baked goods table for a sweet treat for yourself or even something sweet for Mom."

Proceeds from the event will support the DMA, which acts like a booster club for music programs in the district, Zell said.

"We support the music programs by holding several fundraisers all throughout the year, including sub and sandwich sales, whoopie pie and pie sales and our annual Tomahawk Feast, which will be coming up the first Saturday in August," she explained. "We also sell candy grams at each of the schools' holiday and spring concerts so that friends and family have the opportunity to encourage students, and all proceeds from those sales also go to the DMA."

Funds raised by the DMA are used to help purchase equipment throughout the year, cover fees for transportation to competitions and more.

Zell noted that student support is necessary for Spring Thing to be a success, since the students actively participate in the event, but the fundraiser also relies on the community coming out as well.

"This is a wonderful event and a great way to meet some of our awesome students and support their love for music," she said.
