Social Dance Slated at Historic Rock Ford

Historic Rock Ford's next Social Dance, which gives participants an opportunity to enjoy English Country Dance, will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

A 30-minute optional orientation will be held prior to the event to review basic terms and figures. The events are designed for everyone to enjoy; no prior dance experience is necessary, and new dancers are welcome anytime. The event is new to Historic Rock Ford's special event calendar for 2025, and the April event met with an enthusiastic sold-out response.

English Country Dance is a centuries-old dance form that is still popular worldwide. Today, it is probably most recognized as the style of dance in many Jane Austen film adaptations. Programs will often include English country dances dating from the 17th century to the 21st century.

Partners are not required, as dancers will change partners throughout the session, and there will be friendly people who will ask others to dance. Attendees should wear clothes that they can dance and move around in and flat-soled shoes that won't stick or skid on the venue's concrete floor. Guests should also bring water to drink. Dancing will be to recorded music, and each dance will be taught and prompted by a caller.

Participants of all ages are welcome, but the dance is recommended for people age 7 and up. The event will be held in the Langmuir Education Room, located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn.

Historic Rock Ford is located at 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster. There will be an admission fee. Children age 12 and under will be admitted for free. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.HistoricRockFord.org.
