SNHA creates new bucket list

Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) has created a new bucket list of things to see, do, explore, and eat in America's 55th National Heritage Area. Visitors and local residents can use the list to explore 55 experiences featuring SNHA businesses, events, and landmarks in Lancaster and York counties.

Through the bucket list, people can explore the region's history, including York's and Lancaster's brief stints as the nation's capital, African American and Civil War history, the region's role in Colonial America as a gateway to the frontier, ghost towns, railroads, the York State Fair, and the more than 25 covered bridges in Lancaster County. Outdoor activities include discovering a nature preserve, finding a waterfall, and being in two states at once when straddling the Mason-Dixon Line. More than 100 miles of trails and more than 10 scenic overlooks await discovery. People may also learn about the region's produce, such as the Washington Boro Jet Star tomato, the York Imperial apple, and the native pawpaw fruit. Plenty of produce is available at the area's farmers markets.

People are invited to share their bucket list experiences by snapping photos and posting them to social media, tagging @SusqNHA in the post. Those who complete at least five items will receive a Susquehanna National Heritage Area sticker.

People may also bring their National Park Service passport to collect official cancellation stamps from both SNHA visitor centers for a total of seven unique stamps.

SNHA started the bucket list to keep the river towns busy during the 2020 pandemic.
