Showing Classics In Conestoga

The eigth annual Conestoga Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, and will feature a variety of classic rides from automobile enthusiasts. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Main Street in Conestoga will be closed to traffic and lined with vintage cars and motorcycles as well as several food vendors.

The cost of vehicle registration will include a lunch that is provided by the Conestoga Fire Company, and the first 200 people to register for the event will receive a goodie bag. Included in the goodie bag will be multiple items that have been donated from local businesses, including a dash plaque, an air freshener, sunglasses, pens and a personal insulated cooler. Local businesses have donated over 80 prizes, including gift cards, gift baskets, tool chests and cornhole boards. Entries for a prize drawing will be available to attendees. The car show is coordinated by the First Responders Friends, who first organized the event as a means of supporting the Southern Regional Police Department in both Conestoga and Pequea townships. After the police department disbanded, the First Responders Friends adjusted their goal to include supporting local fire companies and EMS providers. "Even though the police department had disbanded, we wanted to continue having the car show and supporting the community," said First Responders Friends board member Melanie Scheid. The funds raised through the event are donated to local fire companies and EMS providers as a way to support their needs and projects that may not be provided for in their budgets. Multiple first responders will be in attendance at the show.

"It brings Conestoga to a point of excitement. Main Street is full, from curb to curb, with people," said Scheid. "It's great to see everybody interacting with each other. The main goal is to give back to the community and show first responders that we appreciate them." In 2021, after taking a break from hosting the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, First Responders Friends began hosting an additional car show in Pequea Township, at the West Willow Fire Company.

Members of the organization are not limited to the Conestoga area; volunteers hail from Millersville, Pequea Valley and all across Lancaster County, and Scheid noted that First Responders Friends is always looking for volunteers. To volunteer to assist with the car show, contact Joel Herzog at 717-989-5525.
