School announces Science Fair winners

St. John Neumann Catholic School (SJNCS) recently held its annual Science Fair with all students in sixth and eighth grades participating. The students conducted scientific experiments using the scientific method and presented their findings to judges from the local community. The winners will represent SJNCS in the North Museum Science & Engineering Fair to be held on Thursday, March 9, at Millersville University.

The winning students and their projects include: Plant Science - first place, Chloe Detz with "Can It Survive?" and second place, Caroline Townsend, "Fe Fi Fo Fum." Also, Earth Science - first place, Ashley Sudderth, "Mine Fires in Pennsylvania!"; Engineering - first place, Skylar Rolon, "Will It Fly?"; second place, Mateo Curry, "Ping Pong Mania!"; and honorable mention, Karolyn Haney, "Constructing a Voice Controlled Lamp."

Also, sixth-grade Consumer Science - first place, Emily Reynolds, "Are You Using the Right Laundry Detergent?"; second place, Sophia Newell, "pH in Shampoo: Is It Normal?"; and honorable mention, Olivia Kiefer, "Permanent Markers: Permanent or PermaNOT. Additionally, eighth-grade Consumer Science - first place, Gianna Ostroski, "Tame Your Mane!"; second place, Natalie Cellucci, "Feel the Burn"; and third place, Caitlyn McCuen, "Waterproof or Water Disproof."

Also, sixth-grade Physical Science - first place, Augustine Lorenz, "A New Water Boost"; second place, Ethan Zoll, "Mind Blowing Maglevs"; and third place, Rowan DeMarco, "How Does Soda Affect Red Meat?" Additionally, eighth-grade Physical Science- first place, Sara Reynolds, "The Power of Fruit & Vegetable Electricity"; second place, Caitlin Reynolds, "Fruit DNA Extraction"; third place, Greyson Gastinger, "How Different Materials Protect an Egg From Gravitational Potential Energy"; fourth place, Victoria Elliott, "Grooving Goo"; and honorable mention, Sam Odell, "Comparing Electrolytes in Sports Drinks."
