School Announces Science Fair Winners

St. John Neumann Catholic School (SJNCS) recently held its annual Science Fair in person. All students in seventh and eighth grades conducted scientific experiments using the Scientific Method and presented their findings to judges from the local community. The first- and second-place winners will represent the SJNCS in the North Museum Science & Engineering Fair, which will be held virtually during March.

In the Plant Science category, Aidan Nguyen won first place with "Hydroponics vs. Soil: Who Will Win?" Adalynn Kirchner won second place with "Snapdragon Extravaganza," and Victoria Elliott earned honorable mention for "Do Plants Have Feelings?"

In the Earth Science category, first place went to Sara Reynolds for "Lead in Our Local Water Sources: The Danger, The Worry, The Facts"; second place went to Caitlin Reynolds for "What's in Your Soil? Testing How the Counties in Pennsylvania Differ in Levels of Nitrogen, Potash, Phosphorus and pH in Their Local Soil"; and honorable mention went to Helen Olmsted for "Sparkly Science: The Science of Growing Crystals."

Kenneth Box placed first in Engineering Science for "Prehistoric Coding," and Ava Thurmond placed second for "Save Your Green ... Think Green Roofs."

The winners in Consumer Science were Nicoletta Kiefer in first place for "Keeping It Hot or Not," Natalie Cellucci in second place for "The Unmasking of Masks," and Caitlyn McCuen as an honorable mention for "Made to Last ... or Is It?"

Hans Richter topped the Physical Science category with "Long-Lasting Motorcycle Batteries," followed by Braydon Hill in second place with "Fishing for Weight" and Emma Townsend in third place with "Bye Bye, Beef."

Molly Roark placed first in Life Science for "Painting With Plant Pigments."
