Sample local cuisine at A Taste of Western Lancaster County

This is a fun way to experience the library in a way you've probably never experienced it before," said Brandon Allen, describing A Taste of Western Lancaster County. "The library will be loud with people talking, catching up with old friends, making new ones and sampling food and beverages from the area."

The 16th annual Taste of Western Lancaster County will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Public Library, 10 S. Market St.

The event will feature more than 20 vendors stationed throughout the library's three floors. "We'll have samples of food from local restaurants and food vendors in our area, as well as samples of beer and wine from local breweries and wineries," said Allen, who is co-chairing the festivities with Kevin Gardner of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown. Participating vendors include The Spot Hometown Deli, Troegs Independent Brewing and Nissley Vineyards.

Live music will be featured on at least two floors of the library as people enjoy the samples.

The public is invited to vote for the best appetizer, best beverage, best entree, best dessert and best of show. Winners will receive a plaque to display at their establishment.

Proceeds from A Taste of Western Lancaster County will be split between the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown and the library.

"We'll use the money to help with our operating costs," Allen said. "Many people don't know that libraries in Pennsylvania have to fundraise for the majority of their operating budget each year. This money provides programming for kids, young adults and adults, and it makes community events like this one possible."

Projects of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown include supporting local schools and Scout troops as well as a variety of community organizations, including Elizabethtown Community Housing & Outreach Services.

Allen noted that A Taste of Western Lancaster County relies on sponsorship, with the biggest sponsor being White Family Dental. Other sponsors include B&G Lumber Company, DDMP Investment Advisors, Waste Hauler Support Services and John E. Fullerton Inc.

A Taste of Western Lancaster County is open to people age 21 and older. Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.tinyurl.com/twlc2024 or in person at the Elizabethtown Coffee Company, located within the library.
