Rotary Club, Scouts Take On Service Project

The Lancaster Hempfield Rotary Club was joined by Boy Scouts from Troop 267 in Silver Spring on May 15 to perform a service project under the direction of West Hempfield Township officials. The project, funded jointly by the Rotary Club and a grant from Rotary District 7390, sought to discourage the practice of putting hazardous waste into storm water drains in residential areas.

Six Rotary Club members joined several Scouts and Scout leaders to install 150 storm water drain markers bearing the slogan "Only rain should go down the drain." Markers were installed in areas within the watersheds of the Little Conestoga Creek, Strickler Run, and Chiques Creek. In addition, grant money was used to install dog waste stations at Murry Park and the township office property.

The Lancaster Hempfield Rotary Club is active in the community, serving community meals at Zion Lutheran Church in Landisville, honoring Students of the Month in Hempfield High School, and performing road cleanup several times a year along Harrisburg Pike.
