River Heritage Day Event Posted

The 20th annual River Heritage Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washington Boro Community Park, located at the intersection of routes 999 and 441. The event celebrates the local heritage of the area, including Native American culture. It features displays, children's activities, food and fun for the entire family. Craft and flea market vendors will be present to sell their goods. Classic and antique cars, trucks and tractors will be on display; anyone who owns such a vehicle is encouraged to display it, and no entrance fee will be charged.

Circle Legacy Center will have a Native American display table of items that would have been made and used by the local tribes that once inhabited the area. Both amateur and professional archaeologists from the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology will be on hand to identify artifacts that attendees bring along.

Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, a local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation agency, will be present with a table outlining some of their successful efforts and fun facts about local wildlife.

A pedal tractor pull competition for kids will begin at 11 a.m., and Jesse the Reptile Guy will give a presentation featuring live animals at 1 p.m. A hayride shuttle will transport people to the adjoining Penn Manor FFA tractor pull competition.

The event is free of charge. Craft vendors may register by contacting Charlie Douts at 717-719-3008. Questions concerning vehicle and tractor display may be directed to Doug Kramer at 717-808-4413. Proceeds from the food stand will support the Blue Rock Heritage Center.
