Recreation Programs Slated

The East Donegal Township Summer Playground program will be offered on weekdays from Monday, June 13, to Friday, Aug. 5, except for Monday, July 4. The program will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lloyd H. Fuhrman Park, 190 Rock Point Road, Marietta. Staff will offer supervised activities, including sports, games, arts and crafts, and nature activities. There is a discount for residents of East Donegal Township. Registration will be accepted at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building, 190 Rock Point Road, Marietta, or through GEARS.

Pedal to Paddle will be offered to people age 12 and up on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chickies Rock Outfitters, 1028 River Road, Columbia. Participants will bike the Northwest River Trail with a bike from the Cycle Works and experience a guided paddle on the Susquehanna River with either a single or tandem sit-on-top kayak. Separate fees have been set for one bike and a kayak and for two bikes and a tandem kayak. The registration deadline is Friday, May 13.

A Coed Kickball League will run on Tuesdays, June 7 to Aug. 9, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Games will be played at the Elizabethtown Community Park softball field on Mount Joy Street. The league fee and rosters are due by Friday, May 20. Each team will play an eight-game schedule with playoffs. The registration deadline is Friday, May 13.

A Smart Driver refresher course designed specifically to meet the needs of older drivers will be held from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17, at the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Topics will include driving skills; strategies for adjusting to age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time; and the effects of medication on driving performance. The class is available to all motorists age 50 and older. This is a PennDOT-approved course and may entitle participants to a discount on their auto insurance. Participants must bring a current driver's license. The fee will be discounted for AARP members.

The Men's Slow Pitch Softball League will run from Wednesday, June 1, to Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Elizabethtown Community Park softball field. There is a maximum of 20 players per team and a 10-player minimum. A team roster and registration fee are required by May 20. Games will be scheduled on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. There is a 15-game schedule with playoffs. In addition to the registration fee, teams are responsible for paying an umpire fee per game.
