Program To Focus On Slack Water Canals

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will offer a program titled "Conestoga Navigation - A Slack Water Canal" on Monday, May 17, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

The speakers, Donald Kautz and Benton G. Webber, will present an overview of the slack water canal system that once existed on the Conestoga River from Lancaster to the Susquehanna River, along with photos of remnants of its locks as they appear today and a brief history of the Conestoga Navigation Company. A question-and-answer session will conclude the presentation.

Kautz is a web developer by profession and amateur photographer in his spare time. He recently produced a photo essay about the Conestoga River, has lived in Lancaster County all his life and currently resides in East Lampeter Township.
