Program To Focus On Antique Powder Horn

The Solanco Historical Society will hold its next program on Saturday, July 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the society's archives building, located across from the Robert Fulton Birthplace at 1932 Robert Fulton Highway (Route 222), Quarryville. The program is free and open to the public, and it will be followed by the society's monthly meeting.

Christian Keller will present "A Powder Horn's Story." While visiting an antiques dealer, Keller chanced upon a powder horn that had once been a possession of his ancestor Jacob Dritt. This discovery sparked his curiosity, and he began to search for more information about Dritt.

The presentation will connect Dritt's experiences within the greater context of the happenings of the American Revolution in Pennsylvania and the adjoining colonies. The tale includes Dritt's being captured by the British during his service as captain of a "flying camp" at the time of the British assault on Fort Washington.

Keller is a professor of history in the Department of National Security and Strategy at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle.
