Presentation To Focus On Holtwood

The Solanco Historical Society will hold its next program on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the society's archives building, located across from the Robert Fulton Birthplace at 1932 Robert Fulton Highway (Route 222), Quarryville. The program is free and open to the public.

James Eshelman will present "The Village of Holtwood: 1905-1995." The Village of Holtwood was a company town built on the slope above the Holtwood Dam to house those who would construct the dam and operate the power plants. It was occupied for 90 years but no longer exists. Eshelman will share the history of the village and its residents.

Eshelman grew up in the villages of Holtwood and Safe Harbor. After graduating from Penn State University, he served in the Air Force for three years. He worked in Lancaster County at The Willows Restaurant and the Amish Farm and House before moving to Carlisle. He managed Banner of Truth, a Christian book publisher from Scotland, distributing wholesale books in the U.S.
