Pook & Pook Slates Auction

Pook & Pook Inc., 463 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, will hold an Americana and International Auction on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 28 and 29. The sessions will begin at 10 a.m. on both days. Bidding for this auction is available online on Bidsquare and Invaluable, by absentee bidding, and by phone.

The first day will begin with a selection of mocha, Liverpool Herculaneum pitchers, and fine art. Included will be a George "Frolic" Weymouth tempera on board landscape of Big Bend, Weymouth's home in Chadds Ford. Other pieces of fine art up for bids will be etchings, still lifes, sculptures, landscapes, and seascapes.

The first day will also include redware, samplers, stoneware, tall chests, hooked rugs, quilts, clocks, portraits, slant front desks, folk art, and Dutch cupboards. American antiques, art, and decorative accessories mostly originating in the mid-Atlantic area will be available. These include a Lancaster cherry tall case clock with a broken arch bonnet with carved rosettes and potted flower inlay enclosing an eight-day works. The first session will end with a collection of furniture and folk art from a Massachusetts collection.

The Jan. 29 session will begin with a rare pair of Philadelphia combback Windsor armchairs, circa 1765, and a selection of old maps. The contents of a Minnesota estate will be available, as will items from New England. Stoneware, chests of drawers, furniture, tea tables, portraits, samplers, and more from the northeastern United States will be available. A whole cloth quilt with a blue paisley design will be up for bids.

Next up will be a collection of silver, including an assembled Tiffany & Co. sterling silver Persian pattern flatware service. Pieces from a Richmond, Va., collector will be up for bids, including a Southern Chippendale walnut two-part bookcase and a set of four Boston Queen Anne maple and birch dining chairs from the mid-18th century.

The sale will end with a selection of material from overseas. These items include an important pair of English delft bowls sporting portraits of Admiral Horatio Nelson, Russian silver enamel from the estate of Georgia Langenfelder Linthicum, and a selection of carpets.
