Pickleball Tournament Benefits DSAA

More than 50 players competed in the second annual Nick Hershey Memorial Pickleball Tournament on Sept. 24. Held at the courts at the home of John and Mable Hershey of Marietta, the tournament included players from all over Lancaster County and ranging in age from 14 to 65. There were A and B level matches from 8 a.m. until the field was narrowed to the eight players who would compete for the championship. The top female player was Brenda Moran. The final four players were Loren Benner, Scott Hershey, Dr. Patrick Moran III, and the 2022 champion, Leander Toney of Lancaster. The tournament was organized by Loren, Lamar Hoover and Arlin Benner.

This year's tournament raised over $15,000, all of which will benefit the Donegal Substance Abuse Alliance (DSAA) in Mount Joy. Stacy Emminger, executive director, and her team at DSAA deliver supportive approaches to addiction by educating, equipping, and supporting individuals, families and communities. DSAA partners with addiction treatment programs and offers complimentary services, including the Nick Hershey Scholarship Fund, which provides funding for men and women coming out of treatment and entering sober living homes.
