Park Association Launches Fundraising Campaign

The local Community Park Association has undertaken a $125,000 community-wide fundraising campaign to create a butterfly garden adjoining New Holland Borough's Groff Park arboretum on North Railroad Avenue in Earl Township. The garden is to be located on two acres immediately north of and connected to Groff Park. The two acres are part of the wellhead protection area for the borough's new public well on the northwest corner of the park. The area is being made available by the borough for the garden.

The fundraising campaign is set to last through April 2023. Organizers hope the grading and underground infrastructure work will be underway this fall, with the full plantings, walkways and related elements completed by next April. The butterfly garden will be permanently owned and maintained by the borough.

The fundraising campaign committee is made up of both park board members and interested community residents. Dr. Robert Johnson and Tim Bender serve as co-chairs, and the other members include Wilbur Horning, Jayne Olin, Harry Klinger, Amanda Maldonado and Dick Fulcher. Fulcher, park board member and borough manager, is coordinating the effort between the Community Park Association and the fundraising campaign volunteers.

For more information, search for "New Holland Community Butterfly Garden" on Facebook or visit the borough office, 436 E. Main St. All donations will go toward the costs of the butterfly garden.
