Oregon Dairy To Host Family Farm Days

Family Farm Days at the Farmstead at Oregon Dairy, 2900 Oregon Pike, Lititz, will feature free food samples and fun and educational activities for the whole family. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Wednesday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and on Thursday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Lancaster County Agriculture Council, Oregon Dairy and a host of other sponsors, Family Farm Days offers an educational firsthand experience at a working farm. The goal of the event is to help people who do not live on farms have a better idea of where their food comes from.

Activities will include free guided tractor-pulled wagon ride tours to and from the farm, free samples of Oregon Dairy's chocolate milk and white milk and free samples of chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Visitors will be able to view "A Day in the Life of a Cow" exhibit, farm equipment displays, the latest in agriculture technology and exhibits from Lancaster County businesses.

Children will be able to explore the straw tunnel and go on a scavenger hunt, sponsored by Lancaster County 4-H Club. Each participant will receive a prize.

A stream study workshop, sponsored by Lancaster County Conservation District, will take place at noon and 2 p.m. each day. Shoes are required to enter the stream.

Also featured will be Barnyard Theatre presentations and an immersion lab from the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation. The new Aquaponics Lab from Commonwealth Charter Academy will be featured on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Pennsylvania WoodMobile will be back for all three days.

The Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association "moo-ve truck" will serve "Farm Show" milkshakes on June 10 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rides will be available for a fee, including barrel train rides, pedal tractor rides and a jump pad. The Rough Rider's 4-H Club will offer pony rides on June 11 at 3 and 6 p.m., and there will be miniature pony rides by Swift Cloud Farms from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily by donation. Donations will go to Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS).

A Pennsylvania Product Makers Market will be featured on June 11 by Made in PA Exhibitors, which will provide samples and sell Pennsylvania food products.
