Orchestra to present "Bach and Glass"

Lancaster Symphony Orchestra will present "Bach and Glass" on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Gardner Theatre at Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster. A free, 25-minute talk will start one hour before each concert.

Pianist Simone Dinnerstein will be featured. The program will include Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord No. 2 in E major; Arnold Schoenberg's "Transfigured Night," which explores transformation and human connection; and Philip Glass' Piano Concerto No. 1, known as the "Tirol Concerto," which merges Glass' signature minimalist style with lush orchestral textures. Michael Butterman will conduct.

Dinnerstein is an American pianist who first received wider public attention in 2007 through her recording of Bach's "Goldberg Variations." Since then, she has had a busy performing career, playing with orchestras ranging from the New York Philharmonic and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra to the London Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Rai. She has made 13 albums, all of which topped the Billboard classical charts. Dinnerstein's activities also include giving concerts in nontraditional venues and to audiences who do not often hear classical music, as well as participating in music education programs. She studied with Solomon Mikowsky, Maria Curcio and Peter Serkin.
