NAMI York-Adams Counties PA has posted two upcoming educational programs, which will be held virtually through Zoom.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer will be offered on Thursdays, Jan. 6 to Feb. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free education program for adults who are looking to better understand their mental health condition and journey toward recovery. The upcoming program will be taught by NAMI trained facilitators Bonnie Fairchild and Tim Laughman, both of whom have a mental health condition. The program includes presentations, discussion, and interactive exercises.

NAMI Family-to-Family will be held on Mondays, Jan. 10 to Feb. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. NAMI Family-to-Family is for family members, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidence-based program that includes presentations, discussion, and interactive exercises. This program will be led by NAMI trained facilitators Amy Graf, Tony Bachman, and Carol Snell, each of whom is a family member of someone living with a mental health condition.

In both programs, participants will learn about managing crises, solving problems and communicating effectively; taking care of themselves and managing their stress; developing the confidence and stamina to provide support with compassion; finding and using local supports and services; up-to-date information on mental health conditions and how they affect the brain; current treatments; and the impact of mental illness on the entire family.
