Murr Sets New Triple Jump Record at McCaskey

Despite a handful of personal bests and a new school record, the Comets fell short at McCaskey Tuesday, April 6. The boys finished with six wins on the day, four in the field, but lost 95-55 while the girls fell 109-40.

"We had some great performances, but McCaskey showed incredible speed on the track," said head coach Ben Shober, "and we were missing a couple of athletes that would have scored points."

Kyle Murr's 46-2 triple jump not only won the event but set a new school record. The previous record, set in 1993 by Shane Thompson, was 45-3.5.

"And he did it on his last jump of the night," explained Shober.

Other wins in the field included PR's by Jaryd Kleinhaus in the shot (41-7), Brayden Clow in the discus (113-1) and Lou Lindsley in the pole vault (9-6).

Graham Thomas (4:21.57), who held off McCaskey's Schousen (4.21.61) battled to win the mile and Dorrien Zimmerman cruised to a first place finish in the 110 hurdles.

Winning for the girls with PRs were Eden Chrisman in the pole vault (11-0), and Jordan Schucker in the javelin (108-6). Alyssa Heagy cleared 4-8 to win the high jump and Jayln Clow took the discus (120-2). The Comets also got PR's from Maddie Whited in the triple (29.5 for 2nd) and Annie Bibus in the mile (5:21.34 for 3rd).

BOYS' LACROSSE

Six different Comets found the back of the net in a home game against Elizabethtown Tuesday, April 6. That balanced attack led to a 9-0 shutout.

"Nick Hollinger had a strong game in goal with 13 saves in three quarters," said head coach Zack Charles. "Defensively we were solid, but we still have things to clean up. We have a very athletic but extremely raw lacrosse team, but they want to succeed. We have a great group of seniors showing the younger guys the ropes. We will go as far as those guys want to take us."

Clayton Hollinger, Isiac Nafziger (4 assists) and Erik Hinkle (2 assists, 10-11 on faceoffs) all found the back of the net twice while Eli Warfel, Benedict Flinchbaugh and Aidan Gerlach also scored in the victory.

A 5-0 run by Manheim Township through the second quarter broke a 2-2 tie and sparked the Streaks to a 10-5 Section One opening victory, April 1.

Manor cut the lead to 7-4 with a 2-0 third quarter but the Streaks had the last say, winning the final frame 3-1.

Nafziger's hat trick and C. Hollinger's two goal effort, along with Dylan Keene's assist, made up the Comet offense.

GIRLS' LACROSSE

The girls' lacrosse team faced its biggest challenge of the season when they hosted Manheim Township Thursday, April 1. The powerhouse Streaks placed nine players in the scoring column and left Comet Field with a 24-0 victory.

They rebounded on Tuesday with a solid 9-3 win at Elizabethtown. Malayna Kahl, Keegan Dings and Maddie Weber all recorded hat tricks as the Comets built a 5-2 first half lead.

VOLLEYBALL

The Comets hosted longtime rival Hempfield in Section One play Thursday, April 1. The Knights, winners of 23 league championships, came away with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) victory.

The Comets kept in close in the first two sets, held a brief 6-5 lead in the second set and tied things up at 11-11. It was nip-and-tuck from there, but the Comets couldn't get past the Knights' front line to pull away.

Riley Walton had ten kills to pace the Comets. Wyatt Rohrer added 22 assists and Elijah Julian added a pair of aces. Defensively, Max Bushong finished with seven digs and Luke Thomas put up four solo blocks.

The Comets hit the road Monday, April 5, for a non-league matchup with Dallastown and, with every set determined by five points or less, returned with a 3-1 loss (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21).

"Unforced errors were the story," said head coach Dustin Hornberger. "We fought from behind in every set but the one we won. Every night we show glimpses of our full potential. I believe we can and will reach that potential."

Greyson Schatz topped the charts with a game-high 17 kills, due in part to Wyatt Rohrer's 34 assists. Derek Warfel added four aces. Bushong recorded six digs and Walton led with four blocks.

BASEBALL

The Comets, committing five errors on the day, slipped to 0-3 with Monday's 2-0 loss to visiting Warwick. Both of Warwick's single runs in the second and fourth innings were unearned. They outhit the Comets by a slim 3-2 margin. Isaac Braegelmann's single in the first and Hunter Krimmel's bunt base hit in the third accounted for Manor's hits on the day.

On the hill, Hunter Sipel gave up three hits and two runs over six innings and recorded seven strikeouts. Noah Beach struck out one in relief.

Wednesday, April 6, the Comets fell behind early and never gained ground in an 8-2 loss to Township. Sipel (double), Braegelmann, Swarr and Ethan Adelman each collected hits.

SOFTBALL

The Comets, faced with three straight games, needed an extra inning to get past Warwick Monday, April 5. After tying the game at 2-2 with a single run in the top of the sixth, and neither team scoring in the seventh, Manor pulled out a solid 6-2 final with four runs in the eighth.

Audrey Paterson (2-4) opened the eighth with a single and scored the only run Manor really needed on an Emily Riggs' double. Maddy Trout, Kaelin Gable (2-4, 2RBI) and Bella Peters, who picked up the win in the circle, all provided base hits to wrap up the scoring.

Tori Hook recorded three hits in four at bats to spark the win.

The Comets improved to 4-0 with a 14-2 non-league win over Daniel Boone Tuesday. Clinging to a 4-2 lead in the first inning, the Comets, with 11 hits on the day, erupted for seven runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the fourth. Rigggs went 2-4 on the day with a pair of homers and five RBIs.

Riggs, with eight strikeouts and one walk, scattered three hits.

Back in league play Wednesday, Trout went 4-4 and Tori Hook clubbed a pair of homers and a double sparking a 16 hit attack that led the Comets past Manheim Township 10-8. Tied at 3-3 in the first and down 4-3 in the second, Manor used a 4-run third to take the lead for good.

Peters and Riggs combined for eight strikeouts and three walks. They gave up seven hits.

TENNIS

The tennis team continued their winning ways with their sixth straight win and second shutout of the season, blanking McCaskey Tuesday, April 6.

Stefo Billis, Curtis Rabatin and Maxwell Davis all earned straight set shutouts while PJ Fahey gave up just one game at No. 4.

Doubles scores were closer, but the Comets still controlled the action. Billis and Fahey earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 while Rabatin and Maxwell dominated with a shutout and Paul Karpouzis and Nico Mann picked up an 8-3 result.

Wednesday's 6-1 win over Cedar Crest featured Rabatin, Davis and Fahey all needing tiebreaker sets to win. Billis won in straight sets at No. 1. He also teamed with Davis for an 8-4 win while Rabatin and Nico Mann also won 8-4.

"They were our toughest competition yet," said head coach Amanda Pryzbylkowski. "Each game took a really long time."
