Mount Joy Rotary recognizes students

The Donegal High School Counseling Office and Career Resource Center has announced that Emma Myers and Akilan Murugesan were the Mount Joy Rotary Students of the Month for March. Students of the Month are honored by members of the Rotary Club during their monthly luncheon meeting.

Emma, daughter of Christina and Steve Myers of Mount Joy, is a member of National Honor Society (NHS), National Math Honor Society, Mini-THON, debate club, Key Club, chess club, quiz bowl and Science Olympiad. She is on the track and field, cross-country and swim teams. She is also a peer tutor, a Pathways Ambassador, and a Link Crew leader. Outside of school, Emma is involved with club swimming in both the winter and summer seasons. She is a Girl Scout working toward earning the Gold Award, which is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. She plans to attend college to major in biochemistry, with the goal of becoming an anesthesiologist.

Akilan, son of Karu Murugesan and Komalasri Karu of Mount Joy, is a member of NHS, National Math Honor Society, the tennis team, debate club and chess club. He is also a peer tutor and a Link Crew leader. Outside of school, Akilan volunteers at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He plans to attend college to study biochemistry, with the goal of pursuing a degree in oncology and conducting research to fight cancer.
