MOPC's Nuts 'N' Bolts Sale Will Return

2022 marks the 17th year that the congregation of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church (MOPC), 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, has partnered with its sister church in Tamshiyacu, a village along the Amazon River in northeast Peru.

"We strive to share the Gospel and the love of Jesus to the folks in this region of the Amazon," said Daniel Henry, MOPC mission team leader.

To raise funds for the Peru mission, MOPC will host its eighth annual Nuts 'N' Bolts consignment sale at the church on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who wish to sell items should contact Boni Henry, one of the event organizers, by calling 717-405-1113. According to Boni, the sale gets bigger every year, so vendors must reserve a space by Sunday, Jan. 2.

When items are purchased, the consignor will receive 80% of the sale price, and the remaining 20% will go to the Peru Mission Fund. People may also donate items to the consignment sale, where all of the proceeds will benefit the mission.

"It's always a surprise ... the different items that arrive for sale," said Boni. "There is a vendor who always brings collectibles that he finds at other sales. One vendor always brings tools and supplies that builders and contractors can use. I expect picture frames, puzzles, tools, sporting goods, and anything that could be found in someone's garage or basement. One year we had Princess House glassware and vintage jewelry."

MOPC began its Peru mission in 2005 in conjunction with Daniel Henry's brother, Dave Henry, who serves as the pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, Mo. Together, the two churches raised funds to build a sister church in Tamshiyacu in 2008. Church members from both Pennsylvania and Missouri typically travel to Peru every year and stay for one to two weeks. While there, they lead Bible school and work on construction projects at the church and within the village.

Over the years, the mission teams have completed several projects in Peru, such as doing maintenance on the church, building a playground for special needs children, installing a running water system for the church, and supplying malaria nets and parasite medicines.
