MCCL plans spring concerts

Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) in has announced its spring 2023 concert series, "All Things New." A concert will be held on Sunday, April 2, at 4 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 140 N. Penn St., Manheim. The elementary and middle school choirs only will perform on Sunday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at Donegal Presbyterian Church, 1891 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy. MCCL will present concerts at Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m.

The concerts will celebrate the Creator who makes all things new. Attendees will share in a musical journey across the world and throughout time, hearing and at times being invited to sing along with music from the global church. The program includes selections from Handel's "Messiah"; contemporary gospel music; pieces in multiple languages, including sign language; and more, tied together by Elaine Hagenberg's piece "All Things New."

The mission of MCCL is training children and youths to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral singing. The 150-voice choir includes Prelude Music, for students in kindergarten and first grade; Choristers, for those in grades two through eight; Carol Choir for second- through fifth-graders; Concert Choir for students in grades six through eight; and Chamber Choir for students in grades nine through 12. These groups are led by artistic director Rosemary Siegrist Blessing with directors Monica Carlson, Galen Kauffman, Sarah Smith, and Sarah Wingard. MCCL is a community children's choir program of Lancaster Mennonite School serving children and youths from Lancaster, Chester, York, and Berks counties.
