Local student earns award from KU

The Department of Psychology at Kutztown University (KU) hosted its annual Psi Chi Induction and Student Awards Ceremony on April 10. The department recognized 11 seniors and one junior with departmental awards based on their individual achievements within the fields of research, fieldwork, internships, leadership, GPA, and service.

Alexandra Sierer of Hummelstown, a member of the Class of 2024, was one of two students who received the Psi Chi Model Student Award for upholding and exemplifying Psi Chi's twin ideals of scholarship and service.

A psychology major with a minor in case management, Sierer has been inducted into Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology; Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; and Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society. She is a Board of Governors Scholarship recipient, has been named to the dean's list and won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar - Athlete Award.

Sierer has served her community through her work as a youth sports coach. She continues this work through her volunteer experience at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, Operation Snowflake, Relay for Life, the KU Period Access Outreach Organization, and Special Olympics.

Sierer has accepted an offer to attend the school counseling master's program with licensure at KU starting in the fall. She wants to focus on her experience of being a positive role model for children in coaching with plans to become a school counselor. She has also been offered a graduate assistantship with KU's Community Outreach Center.
