Maple Leaf Publishing Canada has announced that J. Arthur Moore's novel "Summer of Two Worlds" was showcased at the 2024 New York Library Association (NYLA) Trade Fair, which took place on Nov. 7 and 8 at The Oncenter in Syracuse, N.Y.

The event was an opportunity for librarians, publishers and literary enthusiasts to discover a story that intertwines Native American culture with the challenges of identity and belonging.

"Summer of Two Worlds" tells the tale of a young boy, known as Prairie Cub, who is caught between two worlds. Born to pioneer parents and orphaned at a young age, he is adopted by a Sioux warrior and learns to navigate life as part of the Sioux community. As history reshapes the lives of Indigenous peoples, the boy's father sends his son back into the world of his birth so that he may have a future. Prairie Cub must confront his white heritage and return to a world he barely knows.

Moore captures the essence of a boy's struggle to reconcile his past with his future. The coming-of-age story is a testament to resilience, friendship and the enduring power of cultural heritage.

Following the events of "Summer of Two Worlds," Moore continues Prairie Cub's journey in "Twelfth Winter." Now known as Michael, a name dimly remembered from his past, he returns to the white world, where he faces the challenges of rebuilding his identity and finding a place in a society that has little understanding of his past. With the support of his friends, Michael embarks on a transformative journey that explores the importance of heritage and connection.

Both titles highlight the significant impact of historical events on individual lives. The novels address themes of family, friendship, and the complexities of coming of age during tumultuous times.

Moore is an educator with more than 42 years of experience across various teaching environments. His passion for storytelling is reflected in his writing, which often incorporates his love of history and photography. In addition to "Summer of Two Worlds" and "Twelfth Winter," Moore has authored several other works, including "Journey Into Darkness" and "West to Freedom."

His books have received numerous accolades, including the Mom's Choice Award and the Book Excellence Award. Moore's works have earned five-star reviews from Readers' Favorites, and they are geared toward readers from middle grade to adult who are interested in historical fiction and stories of personal growth.
