Light It Up This Christmas With A Contest

The Quarryville Borough has announced its next themed contest, and this time, businesses can participate.

The inaugural "Merry & Bright" Light Display Contest will surely put people in the holiday spirit. The contest will have two categories: residential and commercial. All displays must be appropriate for viewing by people of all ages, and political messages will not be allowed.

"People should participate to win prizes and to boost community spirit," stated Michelle Evans, administrative assistant for the Quarryville Borough.

First-, second-, and third-place prizes as well as an honorable mention will be awarded to participants in the residential category only. The first-place winner will receive a $300 Giant gift card, the second-place winner will receive a $200 Newswanger Furniture gift card, the third-place winner will receive a gift basket from Meck's Produce, and the honorable mention winner will receive a Christmas lantern from King's Home Furnishings. In the commercial category, the winner will be given a trophy and bragging rights until the contest returns next year.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the beauty of the lights in the holiday season and seeing what ideas people come up with," said Quarryville Borough manager Scott Peiffer.

Only Quarryville Borough residents and businesses may enter the "Merry & Bright" Light Display Contest. Registration, which is required, is due by Wednesday, Dec. 1, and can be completed by emailing evansm@quarryvilleborough.com or calling 717-786-2404.

Judging will take place on Friday, Dec. 17, with a weather date of Saturday, Dec. 18. Winners will be announced on Monday, Dec. 20.

Evans mentioned that the borough would be unable to host the contest without its sponsors: Giant, Newswanger Furniture, Meck's Produce, and King's Home Furnishings.
