Library System Posts Calendar

The Dauphin County Library System recently announced its December calendar of events. Most events will be held virtually. For details and registration, visit http://www.dcls.org or call 717-234-4961, opt. 6.

The James Webb Space Telescope Challenge will run from Wednesday, Dec. 1, through Friday, Dec. 31, on Beanstack. Participants can learn about science and earn badges by logging activities and reading. Learn more at http://www.dcls.beanstack.org.

The Winter Reading Challenge will run from Dec. 1 through Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, via Beanstack. Participants can earn points by logging reading, writing, or creating picture reviews or completing special activities. Kids and teens age 18 and under complete the challenge by logging 100 points. Adults complete the challenge after logging 30 points. Readers who complete the challenge will earn a prize. Learn more at http://www.dcls.org/wrc or by visiting a local library.

Several programs will be offered via Zoom. After registering, participants will receive a Zoom invite and further instruction. Programs are as follows: Toddler Story Time, 10 a.m., Dec. 1.; Spanish Language Conversation Group, noon, Dec. 1; Preschool Story Time, 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3; and Dance Me a Story, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4. Axel Diaz, NASA solar system ambassador and Lancaster resident, will discuss the James Webb Telescope from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Several programs will meet virtually via Discord: Discord Hangouts for teens ages 13 to 18, 3 to 5 p.m., Dec. 1; the Anime Club, 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2; and Teen Dungeons and Dragons, 4 to 6 p.m. on Fridays, Dec. 3 to 17, and 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 4 to 18.

Crazy for Coloring will be held on Sunday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the East Shore Library, 4501 Ethel St., Harrisburg. Program is open to individuals age 18 and older. Coloring sheets and colored pencils will be provided, but participants are free to bring their favorite coloring tools.

The Novel Thoughts Book Club will watch a movie from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at William H. & Marion C. Alexander Family Library, 200 W. Second St., Hummelstown. For more information, contact Sue at 717-576-4645 or visit http://www.dcls.org/friendsevents.

3rd in the Burg: Holiday Music at The Library at McCormick Riverfront Library, 101 Walnut St., Harrisburg, will feature the sounds of the holiday season with classically trained musician Ray Holland and his mountain dulcimer on Friday, Dec. 17, at 5:30 p.m. This program is for adults age 18 and older. Registration is not required.

Novel Thoughts Too! will gather from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21, via Zoom to watch a movie. It is open to adults age 18 and older. Contact darlenea@comcast.net to receive the Zoom link.
