Library Posts Program Schedule

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming to the community. All library programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. Readers may register for all programs at http://www.mslibrary.org or by calling 717-653-1510. Online registration is encouraged.

Members of the public should continue to wear a mask when visiting the library and attending indoor programs. Returned items should continue to be placed in the outside book drop and will be quarantined for two days, during which time fines will not accrue.

The library is currently open on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on Fridays and Sundays. Beginning on Friday, June 4, the library will be open on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Gently used books and media materials can be donated at the self-service shed behind the library on Wednesdays and Thursdays during open hours and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Friends of the Library will hold their annual used book sale on Thursday to Saturday, June 17 to 19, in the Kraybill School gymnasium. Details can be found on the aforementioned website.

All children's and family programs will be in-person only. Registration is required, and space is limited.

Story Time with Miss Jan, which includes activities based on a weekly theme, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays from May 5 to 20.

A Home School Art Class will be available for children age 7 and up on Tuesday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Children will create theme-inspired art based upon the works of a particular artist.

Families are invited to participate in the Lego Challenge on May 4 at 6 p.m. Miss Jan will give each participating family a shoebox full of Legos, along with a theme.

A Make-It Take-It Mother's Day Flower project will be available on Saturday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

Children age 7 and up may join Miss Jan for an on-site STEM project on Tuesday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Fun Family Bingo for family members age 7 and older will be held on Tuesday, May 11, at 6 p.m.

Fun Fort Friday will take place when the library is closed on Friday, May 14, from 5 to 6 p.m. Participants will build a reading fort among the shelves and tables and should bring blankets or sheets, a flashlight, and a beverage. The library will offer a snack and clips for hanging sheets.

Cap the Gap, designed for children ages 5 to 7, will explore a variety of topics of interest to young readers on Monday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m.

History Mystery will offer the opportunity to learn about a mystery related to a real event in history. The event will be offered on Tuesday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Participants must be at least age 7.

A variety of programs and clubs will also be offered for adults. Closely Knit will meet at 1 p.m. on Mondays, May 10 and 24. Knitters and crocheters are invited to socialize while working on individual projects. No registration is necessary.

The Northwest Book Club will meet on Wednesday, May 12, at 6 p.m. The book to be discussed is "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek" by Kim Michele Richardson. The club meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

The Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club will gather from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 15. Any artist who likes to create in the company of others is encouraged to attend.

In observance of Stroke Awareness Month, May, a Stroke Awareness and Understanding program will be presented by Kathy Morrison on May 17 at 1 p.m.

A Gathering of Artists Club will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19. Artists may bring their current project to the library to receive feedback and work in the company of others.

Make-It Monday - "Shabby to Chic" will take place on Monday, May 24, at 6 p.m. Kim Beach will lead this creative program focused on upcycling items for decorative purposes. Attendees should bring any item, such as a vase or plate, so they can use provided materials to upcycling their items.
