Library posts June activities

Adamstown Area Library (AAL), 110 W. Main St., Adamstown, will host a variety of free programs and events for children and adults. To register, visit http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org and click on Events.

The Summer Reading Program began on June 3. Kids of all ages, from birth to age 19, can earn prizes for logging their reading and activities over the summer. This year's theme is "All Together Now!" and the library will host a wide variety of free programs for children, teens, adults, and families throughout the summer.

Adults are invited to participate in Book Genre Bingo through Saturday, Aug. 12. Adults may pick up a bingo card at the library and read books corresponding with the bingo card spaces. After completing any five in a row, they may return the card to the library by Aug. 12 to enter the prize drawing.

Story time programs will include Twinkling Stars Baby Story Time on Thursdays for babies at 10 a.m.; Budding Bookworms Preschool Story Time only on Wednesday, June 28, for children ages 3 to 6 at 10 and 11 a.m.; and "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time for toddlers on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The library Friends will hold book sales in the community room from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, June 20 and 27.

A Teen SummerZine program will be held on June 20 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. featuring author Jared Reck. People ages 12 to 19 are invited to attend in person at Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, or live via Zoom.

Young At Heart, for people age 60 and up, will be offered by REAL Life Community Services on June 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. For details, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

To get one-on-one help with electronic devices, attend Tech Q & A on Wednesday, June 7, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. People may also get help signing up for a Beanstack account for Summer Reading. Tech help and software training is also available at other times by appointment.

Lancaster County Department of Parks & Recreation will present Animal Forensic Science on Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Adamstown Grove. People of all ages may learn about wildlife forensics.

A Craft Workshop for adults and older teens will take place on June 8 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The parks department will hold the following programs at 10 a.m. on Fridays: Spiders and Their Webs, June 9, at Denver Park; Social Insects: Working Together, June 16, at Brubaker Park in Brecknock Township; Community Gardens, June 23, at Chapel Gate Park in West Cocalico Township, during which people will plant seeds to take home; and Let's Explore a Stream, June 30, at Reamstown Community Park, for which people should wear closed-toe and closed-back shoes.

Starting on Monday, June 12, Lego Activity Bags for children ages 5 to 12 will be available for pickup in the library foyer. One kit per family is available.

The parks department will hold a Rock Garden Painting Party for people of all ages on June 12 at 10 a.m. at Adamstown Grove. Rocks, paint, and brushes will be supplied; the painted rocks will be added to the Kindness Rock Garden.

Drop-In STEAM on June 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. will offer opportunities to build with Legos, Knex, and other materials. An adult is required to accompany children under age 8.

The Genealogy Group, for older students and adults, will meet on June 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Talewise Science Heroes: Saving Earth Together will occur on June 14 at 10 a.m. and will include science experiments. Phredd, Ukulele One Man Band, will perform on June 21 at 10:30 a.m. Both programs will take place at Adamstown Grove and will replace story time.

Pool Story Time will be held at 1 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: June 14, July 12, and Aug. 9 at Denver Community Pool and June 21, July 19, and Aug. 16 at Adamstown Community Pool. Attendees must pay the pool entrance fee, which will be discounted, or have a pool membership.

The library will be closed on Juneteenth, Monday, June 19.

Teen Take & Make Packets, providing the materials to make a beaded bracelet, may be picked up on Tuesday, June 20. Supplies are limited. Bags will not be available in July and August.

Nature shows will be presented at the Nature Center at Refreshing Mountain, 455 Camp Road, Stevens, at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, June 20, June 27, July 11 and July 18. Attendees should park in Lot B, follow the yellow footprints to the office, turn left, and take the paved road toward the pond. Each family must sign a release form.

Teens and adults may attend Almost Perfect Crimes on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania will present Working on the Railroads for adults and teens on Thursday, June 22, at 6 p.m. Attendees will learn about the jobs of the conductor, station agent, and engineer.

Ice Cream Taste Testing on June 26 at noon at Adamstown Grove will offer children opportunities to guess ice cream flavors and vote for their favorites.

Sidewalk Sunshine, a sidewalk chalk activity focused on emotions, will be available on the ramp for children all summer.

Throughout the summer, teens may stop by the library's teen section to share how someone helped them become a better person.

People of all ages may pick up a Kindness Heart and write down one way they have shown kindness this summer.
