Library posts holiday activities

The Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Road, Lititz, has posted a variety of holiday activities.

The annual Holiday Happenings event will occur on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature a model train display, a visit from Santa, and family crafts.

Santa will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon to listen to children's wishes. He will take a break at 11 a.m. to read the picture book "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement Clarke Moore to all in attendance.

Santa will also have his mailbox in the children's area of the library until Monday, Dec. 23. Children may drop a letter in the mailbox. The child's full name and address should be included for them to receive a reply from Santa.

Lavon Stauffer and friends will have their model train display up and running in the library's community room this holiday season. The display will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and Thursday, Dec. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m.; on Friday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.; and on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Patrons are invited to give back to the community and the library through the Mitten Tree and Gift-a-Book through Dec. 14. The library will collect new mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, earmuffs, and umbrellas for local families, and members of the community may bring in these items to decorate the annual Mitten Tree. Also, visitors can choose from a selection of books and purchase one for the library; supporters may put a holiday bookplate in the book to honor a special person.
